Can you become an Army officer with a criminal record?

October 23rd, 2011 Peter 8 comments

I am 22 and had an 18 month conditional discharge (Caution) when I was 18 or 19 that went to migistrates court but nothing happened.

Now 22 I have all the needed qualifications for army officer including BA degree.

I have also been told that a conditional discharge does not count as a conviction so I don not have to actually disclose this on any form and It shouldnt be a problem..is this true??

Joining the British Army / Royal Navy with a Criminal Record?

I was accused of assault and carrying an offensive weapon, and I’m due to appear in magistrates courts next month. If I got a criminal record, would this stop me from joining the British Army or Royal Navy?

Today (05/06/2008), I was shooting my old .22 air rifle in my back garden. Some of the pellets when into another garden, I was arrested and I have to go to court next week. I have been arrested before, but I really want to join the British Army. I want to do something right for once in my life. Could my criminal record stop my from joining ? Thanks

I have convictions for two misdemeanors (minor in possesion and open container in my car) I have also been arrested for felony charges but they were dropped at court. Is it even a possibility for me to join?

If a US Army soldier is court-martialled, does that offense go on his criminal record regardless of outcome?

I’m not too sure of the specifics in this particular case, but if anyone knows generally that would be helpful.

I’m pretty sure that the soldier in question was dishonourably discharged, not sure if there was anything more or less about the sentence. Like I said, I’m unsure about details. He was on trial for failing to pass drug tests.

The reason I ask is because he’s applying for a visa to move overseas, and we have to list any criminal convictions he has – but we have no idea if this counts or if it’s even on his civilian criminal record. It’s not the kind of charge that would deny him the visa so we’re not worried about putting the details down if we have to, just want to know whether we need to or not =)
Thanks for the answer so far, one more question – I don’t know how the military and court martials work…

If all he ended up with was a dishonourable discharge, does that usually mean he was convicted? Or can he be acquitted but still discharged?
AND… is there anyone he could call or write to to find info about what’s on his record?
